I only know the
Mega-Drive release, but I've seen a screenshot of an 8-bit
version in a Sega catalog. I've heard that it was a
disappointing release. There was also another version
released for the pc-engine cd. It was called Dynatic Hero,
but I don't know much about this game. Wonder Boy in Monster
World is the 5th game in the series, so it's often called
Wonder Boy 5. In japan it's known as Monster World
III.

In this Adventure game you
have to travel through whole Monster World. In each district
you have to solve different puzzles. Sometimes you have to
meet someone there, other times you have to defeat a boss to
get a certain item.
The game starts the same way as
Monster Land, with the tree trunk of the fortune teller.
After a while you'll reach the first village. You can find
villages all over Monster World where you can buy items,
talk to villagers and save your game. On his journey Shion
gets help of 4 friendly creatures, who will join Shion for a
while.
On your journey you'll get
items or equipment which allows you to reach different areas
of Monster World. For example you can cross the Maugham
desert when you've got the Oasis Boots.
This game is one of my favorite
games I've ever played. The graphics are very colorful and
well designed, especially the villagers. The music is
perhaps even better. Another thing I like are the store
keepers, some shops even have names! Even after you have
completed the game and found all the secrets, it's still fun
to play.
